Regarding subscriptions: I guess feed reader users are just happy with the blog. Other users that prefer emails over feeds should be fine with the alternative email service that is available for all information sources.

I also wouldn't recommend to automatically mirror blog traffic to the mailing list (it would get out-of-sync too easily). I think it's better to explicitly "move" topics that need (further) discussion to the mailing list (leaving a note about that fact here, maybe even a result/summary of the discussion later).

@Gaëtan: Thank you for the report. This issue is already known. We have priorized left/right bar alignment lesser than top/bottom. We will fix this some time after beta1 I think.

@Christian: I fact some cleanups were made to the generator, especially regarding legacy 0.6 support. I think that most of the 0.7 based stuff should work. However there were some major changes in how locales and themes are processed. Finally it means it "may" work in some cases out of the box and require some work in others.

Maybe I have missed the obvious, but for the record: does the new generator / toolchain work with both 0.7 and 0.8 or is it built to work only with the new version?

Just a quick comment on this release: the vertical tabView buttons' icons are awkard: they point left and right instead of up and down.

Maybe it's not such a bad idea. You'd have everything through a single source, and all ensuing comments and discussions would be possible in a standard way, search and archiving included. Doesn't sound so bad to me. Maybe we could use the feedburner service to mirror the news to the mailing list.

Maybe it's worth mentioning that the news site has also a option to subscribe the feed using a classic email subscription.

I would otherwise say that for a active developer using qooxdoo the news site is a must have. So I don't the a massive need to duplicate all messages to the mailing list. We should maybe remember people there that there is an alternative subscription model for this site available.

BTW, the direct link to the FeedBurner service offering the email service is here:
http://www.feedburner.com/fb/a/emailverifySubmit?feedId=390072

@Krycek: Not at all - go ahead and mail it :-) .

@Tobi: That's an interesting thing, and I'm not sure we have spent much time thinking about such a scenario. Let me see ... So let's suppose you have a system-wide read-only installation of the qooxdoo SDK. You would unpack a skeleton zip somewhere where you have write permissions. You configure the QOOXDOO_PATH to the system-wide location and make sure to set the CACHE to some directory you can also write to (something like /tmp/qxcache should be just fine if you're running on quota). Most of the generator's work should now run flawlessly. Still, there might be an issue with the generator trying to update language files in the framework part of the SDK ... I'm not sure, please keep us posted. - You will also not be able to build the standard applications in the SDK (unless your friendly admin does that for you ;), which is sort of a shame but should not be an impediment.

I have not tested it yet, but please make sure that generator2 works well, if I have a system wide qooxdoo install (/opt/qooxdoo-0.8.x) without write permissions.

I'm using the new "make" system (generate.py) yet in windows os. It's working great. After having the cygwin installed It's kinda of ugly have to deal with DOS ;/
But I can use cygwin if I want too... so I think everyone wins \o/

Congratulation to the qooxdoo team for the great work you are doing. I'm learning 0.8 since alpha1 and I'm amazed... I've managed to make everthing I wanted so far and with that feeling that I'm doing it the right way.

What can I say? I've chosen the right framework to learn :)

Is it a bad idea to send to the mailing list these news?
